For those of us interested in photography, Centro de la Imagen is treasure to be explored. Located right beside the Ciudadela handicraft market, it is only open Wednesdays through Sundays, 11am-2pm and 3-6pm. Entrance is free, and the cool, quiet space inside offers a changing exhibit of numerous different photographers from all over Mexico and Latin America.

Since 1994, this 18th century tobacco factory has served as a space dedicated to the exhibition, research, education and dissemination of photography. Their library is also open to the public, by appointment only.
Centro de la Imagen is also responsible for two of the most significant events for the photography community in Mexico: the Photography Biennial and Fotoseptiembre. The Biennial is a photography contest held every 2 years, and Fotoseptiembre is a month-long international festival of photography. This celebration began in 1989, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of photography in Mexico.
